Junior RoCo: A Youth Amateur Dramatics Group With A Difference!
At Junior RoCo, we put a specific focus on development of the individual. By keeping groups small, we can work with our young members directly, helping them to flourish as both actors and people.
Currently taking place on Monday evenings, we have two groups: Ayckbourn group, from 6.30pm – 7.30pm, for our members aged 9-13; and Bennett group, from 6.30pm – 8.30pm, for our older members aged 14-18.
We bring the groups together for the first hour, allowing the younger children to learn from the older ones, strengthening the team and giving us the opportunity to rehearse together; before letting Bennett group explore the ideas we’ve touched upon in more depth.
We really help to build confidence, by experimenting with all aspects of drama and performance, including improvisation, scripted work, poetry, backstage work, singing, dancing, and numerous (very noisy!) games, designed to encourage teamwork and confidence. We also have a lot of fun!
We actively encourage the young members to write and direct their own material and have some very talented playwrights in the group. The young members are also actively engaged in the running of Junior RoCo Dramatic Society and each term help plan the programme of activities.
We aim to arrange an array of trips and experience days, including theatre visits, and we welcome guest leaders to facilitate a range of sessions including singing, dancing and makeup workshops!
We are always happy to welcome new members whether on stage or behind the scenes. If you would like to find out more information, enquire about joining the group, or are interested in helping out as a Junior RoCo supervisor, please contact Faye Henderson at: firstname.lastname@example.org
